Ethel W. Ford

January 20, 1918 ~ April 3, 2017 (age 99) 99 Years Old


Ethel W. Ford, 99 years young, formerly of Pearl, passed away April 3, 2017 at the Caring Place.

Ethel was born January 20, 1918 in Leetonia Ohio and was the daughter of Harry H. and Esther Beck Woods. Ethel attended public schools in the News Castle area before moving to Wesley.  Once moving to Wesley she attended Wesley High School and graduated from there in 1935.

Ethel was married on September 26, 1942 to Floyd C. Ford,  Floyd passed away July 12, 2008.

Ethel first worked for General Manifold and Printing Company in the shop.   After Ethel was married to Floyd she worked for Atlas Powder Company during World War II.  She worked in inspection and later put stencils on the bombs used during the war.  She was active in her community as well, working as a auditor and also worked on the election board for Victory Township for many years.  Ethel enjoyed working  in the homes of local families helping them with their day to day work. 

Ethel loved her church and was a faithful member of Hickory Grove Church of God. 

Ethel enjoyed quilting and being outside working in her garden.   Ethel loved to sew and has made wedding dresses.  She was a wonderful baker and enjoyed making treats for her family. 

Loved ones left to cherish Ethel's memory are her two daughters:  Mrs. Karen Kopp and her husband Phil of VA,  Mrs. Martha Hoffman and her husband Ken of Franklin.  Five grandchildren: Douglas Hoffman and his wife Becky of Franklin, Traci Vogan of Erie, Greg Hoffman of Franklin,  Arthur Kopp of Maryland,  Alaine Walsh and her husband Tom of VA.  5 great grandchildren complete Ethel's family, Jennie Hoffman, Nicholas Vogan, Leigh Walsh, Kate Walsh and Ashton Wittwer.  One sister also survives Mrs. George (Jean) McKinley of New Mexico.   Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to  Ethel's parents and husband she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, her twin Robert E. Woods, Harold H. Woods and William E. Woods.  Three sisters also passed Hazel R. Wareham, Dorothy Reagle and Emelyn Eakin.

Family will welcome friends and family at the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, 109 Emlenton Street, Clintonville on Thursday, April 6th, 2017 from 5-8 pm.    Funeral service will take place at the funeral home on April 7th, 2017 at 11:00 am with Pastor Don Dittman officiating.

Internment will  take place at Hickory Grove Cemetery.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Caring Place for the excellent care Ethel received and also to Ethel's church family from Hickory Grove Church of God.
