Dave McDougal, 89, of Barkeyville, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024.
Dave was born on Dec. 22, 1934, at the home of his parents, Elmer and Garnett (McCandless) McDougal, in Cherry Township, Butler County.
He attended school in the Oil City and Sharon area. Dave married Pat Soose on March 31, 1967.
Dave entered the service in 1952, enlisting in the Navy during the end of the Korean War. He received his basic training at Bainbridge, Md. He then served on the USS Steinaker as a gunner’s mate for the rest of the time he was in the Navy. Dave was honorably discharged as a seaman in 1955. He served in the Reserve until 1960.
Dave worked for many years for IA Construction in Franklin before retiring from Matthews Trucking. After retirement, Dave worked part time for Ben Hal Mining, moving equipment from job to job. Dave served as a Barkeyville council member from 1972 till 1980. He was a lifetime member of the Elks in Meadville, and the VFW Post in Grove City. He enjoyed camping with his family and traveling with his wife, Pat, and their friends.
Loved ones to cherish Dave’s memory are his wife, Pat McDougal of Barkeyville; his children, Tom (Melanie) Martin of Barkeyville, Randy (Susie) Martin of Barkeyville and Bruce (Lori) Babbitt of Florida; and his beloved grandchildren, Megan Bruno, Bill (Ashley) Surrena, Morgan Martin, Kathleen (Pete) Brunetto, Tara (Rusty) Surrena, Alexis Martin and Ashley (Korey) Baker. Dave’s great-grandchildren, Hayden, Grace, Kinsley, Everleigh, Corbin, Cartier, Carson and Brooks; Dave’s siblings, Linda Burgard, Joe (Heidi) McDougal, Dawn (Steve) Salota and Peg Schwab; and numerous loving nieces and nephews; and Dave’s great friends also survive.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Edward Martin; his daughter, Tonya Haefner; his brother, Dan McDougal; his sister, Sheri McDougal; and two brothers-in-law, Leo Burgard and Jerry Schwab.
Funeral services for Dave were private. Burial will take place at the Old Log Cemetery,

The family suggest memorial donations be sent to the Barkeyville United Methodist Church or a charity of one’s choice in Dave’s memory.
