Gerald J. Lopata, 81, of Polk, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his home, November 14, 2024.
Gerald was born July 27, 1943 in Pittsburgh. He was the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Markewinski) Lopata. He graduated from high school in Pittsburgh.
Gerald married Mary Lou “Boovie” Hovanec on August 28, 1966. Mary Lou passed away September 28, 2022. Together the couple had two sons Gerald and Gregg.
Gerald proudly served his country having enlisted in the Army in January of 1963. He was honorably discharged on January 22, 1966 with the rank of SP4 E-4 (T).
Gerald was a member of the Clinton Irwin Rod and Gun Club, where he served as longtime President, Many afternoons were spent at the VFW in Franklin where he took pride in being the oldest member. Gerald was a carpenter by trade, but it was his love of farming and the great outdoors that moved his family from Pittsburgh to Polk, PA. In addition to farming, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and skeet shooting. He loved to travel, especially to Aruba, Gerald and his MaryLou loved to listen to music and spent many nights dancing the night away while enjoying a Tanqueray and tonic or a cold beer. Gerald loved to go on scenic road trips, especially on his motorcycle. He was a man that was always in charge and lead his family with kindness, always enjoying time spent together.
Loved ones to cherish Gerald’s memory are his children Gerald (Julie) Lopata and Gregg Lopata, his beloved grandchildren Jenna, Jacob and Ryan Lopata. His brothers James (Kathy) , Albert (Deborah) and Joseph (Debra) Lopata as well as several nieces and nephews, special friends Jason Platz and Michael Skruch, and countless other friends.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his brother William Lopata.
The Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home in Clintonville is assisting the family with arrangements. There are no services scheduled at this time.
