Mary Alice Hovis

Mary Alice Hovis, 83, of Clintonville passed away Monday.
Born on March 8, 1931, in Ellwood City, Lawrence County, she was the daughter of the late Donald M. McCowin and Lola Luella Asher McCowin.
She married Herbert V. Hovis on June 25, 1955, and he survives.
Mary Alice attended and graduated from the public schools in Ellwood City, then attended and graduated from Geneva College with an elementary education degree. She then attended the University of Pittsburgh to obtain her master's degree and a minor in psychology.
Mary Alice was a devoted housewife, mother and grandmother.
She was an elementary teacher at Victory School in Irwin Township and taught in the Franklin School District as a kindergarten teacher.
She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Clintonville where she was very active. She had been a Sunday school and Bible school teacher for a number of years. She was the choir director, church organist and pianist for a number of years. She also was on various boards of the church.
Mary Alice touched many lives by reaching out to them through her card ministry. She would send get-well cards, birthday cards and Christmas cards to different people in the community, sending multiple cards a week to different people in the area just to let them know she was thinking about them.
Surviving are her two sons, Donald C. Hovis and his wife, Shirley L., of Clintonville and Ronald C. Hovis and his wife, Beverley D., of Butler; her four grandchildren, Courtney M. Loflen and her husband, Dr. Jason B. Loflen of Erie, Cameron J. Hovis of Clintonville, Kristy D. Titler and her husband, Joe A. Titler, of Erie and Lori N. Hovis of Butler, and her former daughter-in-law, Mrs. Darrell "Kimberly D." Scott.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Larry J. Hovis on June 9, 1989.
Hovis - The family of Mary Alice Hovis, who passed away Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at theLarry E. McKinley Funeral Home, 109 Emlenton St., Clintonville. A private family service will take place Friday with interment at the Clintonville Methodist Cemetery.
The family suggest memorial contributions be sent to the Grace United Methodist Church, Franklin Street, Clintonville PA 16372.
