William F. “Butch” Snyder Sr., 72 of Polk, passed away February 24, 2025, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh after battling cancer for a second time.
Butch was born March 13, 1952, and he was the son of the late James “Abe” and Lucille “Tuckey” (Stevens) Snyder.
He graduated from Franklin High School and later retired from PennDOT. He had also previously worked at Polk Center. On April 23, 1971, Butch married Linda Kay Anthony, who passed away February 23, 2004, and whom he dearly missed.
He loved playing cards at Wendy and Jeff’s with Tyler, his sisters Shirley and Linda, his son Butchie and his wife Tammy. He also adored his dog, Leroy, who was a constant companion and would smile at the thought of him being named after ‘Bad, bad, Leroy Brown’. Butch enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. In later years, he found joy sitting around a “Butchie fire,” listening to music and drinking a cold beer. Papa Butch also loved setting off fireworks and feeding the various birds that came to visit.
Loved ones who will cherish Butch’s memory are his son William “Butchie” Snyder, Jr., and his wife Tammy; his sister Linda and her husband, Jim; their children, Anna (Bill) McMurdy, Jim (Denise) Lusher, and Danny (Misty) Lusher; his brother-in-law Bo (the late Shirley) Ghering, and their children Jeff Finch, Wendy (Jeff) Weiss, Jessica (Ryan) Dovenberg, and Serena Ghering, along with additional nieces and nephews.
Butch is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James; his wife, Linda Kay Snyder; his daughter, Shelly Jo Snyder; and his sister, Shirley Ghering.
No memorial service will be held, but a celebration of life will take place at a later date. The Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home in Clintonville is assisting the family with arrangements.
